Naval's Path

A structured learning path through Naval Ravikant's podcast — curated for the builder who wants to fund their life through a single great product, think clearly enough to guide their family, and become someone worth emulating.

"Build one product that funds your life, think clearly enough to guide your family well, and become someone your kids would want to emulate. Everything else — the MRR, the philosophy practice, the investing discipline — is in service of that."

The Learning Path

Forty-three episodes, ordered into six phases. Each phase builds on the last. Skip nothing within a phase — the ideas compound.

Why this order? Naval's body of work spans wealth creation, philosophy, happiness, and epistemology. Consumed randomly, it's inspiring but diffuse. This path is structured around the goal stated above: first, understand why wealth matters and what it actually is; second, learn the mechanics of building and leveraging specific knowledge; third, master the inner game — clarity, peace, and decision-making; fourth, go deep on the epistemology that underpins all good thinking; and finally, absorb the most current thinking on AI, product, and the new leverage available to a solo builder. Episodes that have not aged well — early crypto speculation, 2021 political commentary, and pre-2019 blog posts — are excluded from the path but remain in the full index below.
01

The Foundation: What Wealth Actually Is

Before tactics, you need the correct mental model. These episodes redefine wealth as ownership and leverage — not salary — and establish why building something that runs without you is the only path to freedom. Start here even if you think you already know this.

  • Wealth, Not Money or Status
    Jan 2019
The definitional bedrock. Wealth is assets that earn while you sleep. This single reframe changes every decision that follows.
  • Make Abundance for the World
    Jan 2019
Establishes that ethical wealth creation is a positive-sum game — critical for removing the psychological friction many builders carry about making money.
  • Free Time Is the Highest Leverage Activity
    Jan 2019
The argument for protecting your time ruthlessly. Connects directly to the goal of a single product that funds life without consuming it.
  • Play Long-term Games With Long-term People
    Mar 2019
All returns in life come from compound interest. This reframes patience as strategy, not virtue.
  • The Internet Has Massively Broadened Career Possibilities
    Mar 2019
The internet lets you scale any niche obsession. Directly relevant to a solo builder who wants to avoid marketing and audience-building.
  • Give Society What It Doesn't Know How to Get
    Mar 2019
The product strategy in one sentence: find something society wants but can't yet articulate or source. This is the entire brief for a solo builder.
02

The Mechanics: Specific Knowledge and Leverage

The operational layer. How to identify what you uniquely know, how to turn it into a product, and which forms of leverage — code and media above all — are available without permission. This is the "how" to Phase 1's "why."

  • Arm Yourself With Specific Knowledge
    Mar 2019
The single most important concept in the entire body of work. Specific knowledge is what makes you irreplaceable and un-commodifiable.
  • Specific Knowledge Is Highly Creative or Technical
    Mar 2019
Clarifies what specific knowledge looks like in practice — it lives at the bleeding edge of technology or art, not in textbooks.
  • Product and Media Are New Leverage
    Apr 2019
Code and content work while you sleep. This is the leverage available to a solo technical builder without needing capital or employees.
  • Product Leverage Is Egalitarian
    Apr 2019
The best products are available to everyone. Software is the great equalizer — your product can reach the same people Jeff Bezos reaches.
  • Pick a Business Model With Leverage
    Apr 2019
Network effects, zero marginal cost, scale economies. Choose the model before you build the product.
  • Embrace Accountability to Get Leverage
    Apr 2019
Building under your own name is the prerequisite for trust-based leverage. Relevant for a builder who wants to avoid traditional marketing.
  • Judgment Is the Decisive Skill
    Apr 2019
In an age of infinite leverage, the quality of your decisions is the bottleneck — not effort, not capital.
  • Learn to Sell, Learn to Build
    Mar 2019
If you can do both, you're unstoppable. The solo builder who can ship and communicate is a complete unit.
  • Productize Yourself
    May 2019
The synthesis of the entire How to Get Rich framework in two words. The goal: scale yourself, not your hours.
  • Find Your Specific Knowledge Through Action
    Jul 2025
A later, more mature reflection: you don't discover your specific knowledge by thinking — you discover it by doing difficult things and noticing what comes naturally.
03

The Inner Game: Happiness, Peace, and Clear Thinking

The goal is not just a funded life — it's a designed one. These episodes address the internal operating system: how to make decisions without anxiety, how to find peace without achieving it, and why happiness is a skill, not a reward. Essential for anyone with a family to guide.

  • Finding Peace from Mind
    Mar 2020
The mind should be a servant, not a master. This reframes the entire happiness project: you're not seeking more, you're quieting the noise.
  • Happiness Is Peace in Motion
    Mar 2020
A precise, non-mystical definition of happiness. Stress is wanting two incompatible things at once. Clarity of priority eliminates most stress.
  • The Path to Peace Is Truth
    Mar 2020
When self-improvement fails, work on discovering the truth. A key insight for anyone who has tried to change habits through willpower alone.
  • Groups Search for Consensus, Individuals Search for Truth
    Mar 2020
What society wants for you is not what's good for you. Critical for an introvert building outside the mainstream.
  • The Closer You Are to the Truth, the More Silent You Become Inside
    Mar 2020
Wisdom and internal quiet are the same thing. A useful north star for measuring your own progress.
  • Work the Least for It
    Feb 2020
Happy people don't have to work as hard. The quality of decisions — not hours — is the multiplier. Directly relevant to the 30-min/day portfolio model.
  • The Modern Struggle Is Fighting Weaponized Addiction
    Feb 2020
In an age of abundance, pursuing pleasure for its own sake creates addiction. A clear-eyed look at what competes for your attention and energy.
  • It Is Impossible to Fool Mother Nature
    Sep 2025
Take responsibility for everything bad that happens to you. The mindset that preserves agency and eliminates victimhood.
  • Blame Yourself for Everything, and Preserve Your Agency
    Aug 2025
A companion to the above. The practical application of radical ownership as a decision-making tool, not a guilt trip.
  • Kapil Gupta: Conquering the Mind
    May 2020
The deepest episode in the entire catalogue on the nature of the mind. Kapil's framing — that mimicry always fails, that you must find your own path — is the most honest thing Naval has published.
04

The Philosophy: Epistemology and Clear Reasoning

To guide your family well and make good decisions under uncertainty, you need a reliable theory of knowledge — how to know what's true, how to error-correct, and how to avoid the traps of consensus thinking. Naval's deep engagement with David Deutsch is the most underrated part of his work.

  • This Book Changed the Way I Think
    Mar 2021
The entry point to Naval's epistemology arc. David Deutsch's "The Beginning of Infinity" is the lens. Start here before the interviews.
  • Science Is the Engine That Pulls Humanity Forward
    Mar 2021
Establishes the worldview: science as the only reliable error-correction mechanism. "Believe in science" is an oxymoron — you test it.
  • Nullius in Verba
    Mar 2021
"Take no one's word for it." The Royal Society's motto as a personal operating principle. The antidote to cargo-cult thinking.
  • David Deutsch: Knowledge Creation and The Human Race, Part 1
    Feb 2023
The first of the canonical Deutsch interviews. The theory of knowledge, good explanations, and why creativity is the only unlimited resource.
  • David Deutsch: Knowledge Creation and The Human Race, Part 2
    Aug 2023
Popper's impact, the nature of conjecture and criticism, and why most institutions are anti-knowledge. Essential for independent thinkers.
  • Groups Never Admit Failure
    Dec 2021
Groups would rather schism than admit error. Individuals can. This is why building alone or in very small teams preserves epistemic integrity.
  • Don't Rely on Credibility Stamps
    Nov 2021
The generation-long shift from institutions to individuals. Directly relevant to a builder who wants to operate outside traditional structures.
  • The Foundations Are Math and Logic
    Apr 2019
Microeconomics, game theory, and logic are the only durable mental models. Everything else is anecdote dressed as principle.
05

The Operating System: Time, Decisions, and Iteration

The day-to-day. How to structure your time, when to iterate versus commit, how to think about long-term games, and what it actually feels like to work for yourself. These are the practical episodes that translate philosophy into daily behavior.

  • Set an Aspirational Hourly Rate
    May 2019
No one will value your time more than you do. The mental model for every outsourcing and delegation decision.
  • Be Too Busy to 'Do Coffee'
    May 2019
Ruthlessly decline meetings. Keep a clean calendar and stay busy on high-impact work. The operational discipline behind Naval's output.
  • When You Truly Work for Yourself
    Jul 2025
The paradox of self-employment: no work-life balance, but no work either. The honest description of what this path actually feels like.
  • In Most Difficult Things in Life, The Solution Is Indirect
    Jul 2025
Don't chase money directly. Build value, apply leverage, and money is the byproduct. The same logic applies to happiness and relationships.
  • Life Is Lived in the Arena
    Jul 2025
You only learn by doing. All the general principles in the world are useless without the specific context that comes from acting.
  • If You Want to Learn, Do
    Jul 2025
Naval on starting a new company and the learning frenzy it triggered. The most honest recent episode about what building actually does to your mind.
  • Pause, Reflect, See How Well it Did
    Aug 2025
Iteration requires a feedback loop. This episode is about building the habit of honest self-assessment without self-flagellation.
  • Kelly Criterion: Avoid Ruin
    Jul 2019
Don't risk everything. Stay out of jail. The single most important risk management principle for a solo operator with a family depending on them.
  • You Have to Enjoy It a Lot
    Jul 2025
Marketing is an open problem — pick a business that is congruent with how you naturally communicate. The permission to ignore channels that don't fit you.
06

The Frontier: AI, Simplicity, and the New Builder

The most recent episodes. Naval's thinking on AI as leverage, the return of the solo builder, and the design principles that make products last. These are the most directly actionable episodes for someone building with AI tools today.

  • A Motorcycle for the Mind
    Feb 2026
AI as cognitive leverage — the most important shift in the economics of building since the internet. The framing every solo builder needs right now.
  • A Return to Code
    Apr 2026
Vibe coding, the personal app store, and the end of Apple's dominance. The most current episode — directly relevant to a technical solo builder in 2026.
  • Find the Simplest Thing That Works
    Oct 2025
The Raptor engine principle: iterate toward fewer parts, not more features. The design philosophy of a sustainable solo product.
  • Good Products Are Hard to Vary
    Sep 2025
A good product has no unnecessary parts. When you can't remove anything without breaking it, you're done. The test for product completeness.
  • Inspiration All the Way Down
    Jul 2025
On iteration, agency, and what it means to be inspired by the work itself rather than by the outcome. The right fuel for a long-term builder.
  • In the Arena
    Oct 2025
On Elon, iteration, and agency. The most direct recent statement of Naval's philosophy of action: you learn by being in the arena, not by watching it.
